I am very excited and proud to announce that I recently received my WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP) designation from the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). The purpose of this is to take a people first approach to design that prioritizes human health, well-being, and our surrounding environment.
WELL uses 10 core concepts that are backed by scientific research to create standards that make the spaces we live and work in healthier to live our lives in. The 10 areas are Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind, and Community. I will be expanding further into what each of these mean in some additional blog posts for anyone who wishes to learn more. Each of these concepts is used to promote human health and wellness in the spaces we each occupy.
Those of us who have been awarded the WELL AP designation have demonstrated an understanding of each of these concepts and how to apply those to the spaces we design with advanced knowledge of improving health and wellbeing in the built environment with specialization in the WELL Building Standard. This knowledge allows me to support the health and well being of the people I am designing for using best practices in design and construction that are backed by evidence based medical and scientific research to make design decisions that are not only good for our environment, but are good for all people who will occupy the space and use the products that have been selected.
This marries the environmental concepts that Studio Em Interiors has been using when approaching design with the health and wellness of the occupants of the space. Providing a well-rounded, sustainable design focused not just on the space, but on you too.
