Happy Earth Day!
There is no better day for introducing this series of posts than Earth Day. We have seen a lot of content about saving the planet this month. Then it fades away till next year, but it is important to keep the conversation going and make changes year-round. I plan to release several posts, each focusing on changes we made in our household that are good for the environment and our health and wellness.
How it Began:
The shift started when I found out I was pregnant, the doctors began to give me a list of everything that wasn’t good for a person while pregnant. I dove deep into finding non-toxic products for myself, changed my eating patterns, and researched all the baby products to buy for the new little one.
After giving birth, I thought all these things they didn’t want me using while pregnant are not magically good for me now that I have had the baby. It gets really interesting when you start to pay attention to everything around us in our everyday lives that just isn’t good for us or the earth.
Misconceptions:
One of the biggest comments I hear from clients is that sustainable and healthy changes are high-dollar items. When discussing design that is good for the environment most clients think about installing solar or replacing all their windows. While both of those things are great, and yes, high dollar changes, there are so many changes we can make in our daily lives that are low cost and can add up to a big impact. If we can all start making those little changes that will add up to an even bigger impact the more people do it.
Things we can all do:
This is what this series is about. Small changes add up to big changes. Which then begins to create a big change for the environment and your health and wellness. I am going to dedicate a post to each of the changes we have made in our home. I’ll let you know how the changes did or didn’t work for us, what products we like, and how it has changed our lives for the better.
Each of the items on the list below are changes we have made in our home. The links to the corresponding posts will be linked here as each post goes live:
- Replacing Plastic Bags
- Replacing Plastic Wrap
- Using a non-toxic cleaner for the house
- Air Purifiers
- Replacing daily products (beauty, hair care, etc.) with non-toxic versions
- Reusable Water Bottles
- Replace Paper Towel – Swedish Dish Cloths and Reusable paper towels.
- Silicone Baking Mats and Baking Cups
- Wool Dryer Balls

These are just some of the changes we have made over the last year or two. As we continue to make changes and find products we love I will continue to grow this list and share the information with you here. Check back often to see what new, sustainable swaps can be made to better your own wellness and the environment.
