Happy Halloween!
This month in place of our normal time to get away post we are going to tell you the best places to get away and celebrate Halloween right! It is a holiday after all and a holiday that we here at F.I.N.D.S. happen to love. We have picked out a few of the festivals around the U.S. that we would one day like to get away to.
Salem, Massachusetts
Top of our list is the month long list of festivities for Salem Haunted Happenings in Salem, MA. I cannot think of a better place to celebrate with witches, spirits, and all kinds of Halloween fun. There really is something for everyone going on in Salem, MA. The events on Halloween night are extensive, but the festival runs all through the month of October celebrating all that is spooky and the fall season. The fun doesn’t end their either. During the month of October you can also attend the Festival of the Dead and the Psychic Fair and Witchcraft Expo.
Keene, New Hampshire
I for one love everything pumpkin, pumpkin carving, roasting the seeds, making countless things to eat with pumpkin in it, and watching the candles flicker in a finished jack-o’-lantern. It is the season for pumpkin. That is exactly why the Keene Pumpkin Festival sounds so fantastic. Each year the streets glow with the light from towers of jack-o’-lanterns. This year the festival took back its Guinness World Record from Boston with 30,581 carved and lit jack-o’-lanterns. It really would be a site to see.
Long Beach, California
If you are closer to the West Coast then the Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor may be the celebration you should attend. Three nights of terror where participants can wind their way thru terrifying mazes, encounter monsters, ride spooky rides, listen to dj’s, and participate in costume contests. Halloween night you can participate in the annual Halloween costume Ball and maybe even take home a prize if you are the best dressed. The place is said to be haunted so maybe you will encounter some spirits. If you are lucky enough to book your trip early there are even a small number of rooms available to stay the night aboard this haunted vessel… if you dare.
New Orleans, Louisiana
New Orleans is already known for Voodoo and hauntings so why not spend the Halloween holiday there. It is often called the most haunted city in America and there is something for everyone on this, the most haunted of days. From Street Parties and costume contests, to trick or treating, ghost tours and even a Boo at the Zoo event. Anyone of any age will find a way to celebrate in this city. There are also many haunted houses and individual events put on by the cities shops, restaurants, and bars. Lastly, this year marks the return of the Krewe of Boo Halloween Parade.
Wyoming, Wisconsin
Of course we would have to include something that pertains to architecture and design. This is what brings us to The House on the Rock. This house was built by Alex Jordan Jr. as a way to get back at Frank Lloyd Wright who had kicked Alex Jordan Sr. out of his art school because he thought he was a hack. What resulted was an insanely peculiar architectural style that really is unexplainable. This house is also built in the vicinity of Frank Lloyd Wright’s own house in Wisconsin. When visiting the house when it is not Halloween come prepared to be freaked out by things like the Infinity room that juts out 218 feet for no reason and has no supports underneath, other rooms include “exhibits” such as a frozen orchestra of mannequins (that would freak us out on a normal day!), a circus room, the largest indoor carousel, a room full of organs (the musical instrument, not body parts), and another orchestra that is said to be controlled by invisible robots. If that by itself is not enough then feel free to participate in The Dark Side event. Live your nightmares and stroll through this twisted house at night. After wandering the house you will face a maze before escaping to be greeted by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Sounds like a frightfully good time to us.
Those are just five of the Halloween attractions that top our list of places we would like to get away to for the day, but there are so many other events all over the world that take place at this time of year. If you are unable to get away for the holiday I am sure there is some sort of haunted attraction in your area. Happy Halloween! Enjoy your night!
