For a seriously amazing trip, no matter the season, I suggest heading to Athens, Greece. I have had the luck to visit in both summer and winter, and there are definitely benefits to both seasons. If you like to visit when the tourist season is at a low, definitely go around the holidays. It’s a beautiful place to be, even if a little cooler than tropical destination. For those of you who want the hottest temps and the biggest crowds, head there throughout the summer. Here are some of my tips for your Athens vacation!
Don’t Skip the Big Spots: The Acropolis & Parthenon, Mount Lycabettus, and the Panathenaic Stadium are just a few of the major tourist stops that I recommend visiting. Despite tourist crowds, they are all worth it when you get some amazing views, fabulous history and stellar memories. It’s truly amazing to stand in these places that are so incredible and historically significant, it really can’t be beat.
Shopping: The Plaka and Monastiraki Square are both seriously awesome hot spots for shopping. Local vendors, cute shops, flea market stalls and more all make up these areas and open themselves up for some sweet things to take home. They are both unique and creative spots where you can hang out, do some shopping and take some great pictures.
Play Tourist: Okay, so this may sound silly, but I absolutely love being as ‘touristy’ as possible when I go overseas. To me, this meant using a ‘hop on, hop off’ tour bus, and taking a tourist boat to the islands off the coast of Athens. Both of these inclusions were well worth the money and guarantee a really great way to see everything!
