No one wants to live in a boring space and sometimes when you rent you think that’s the only choice you may have. This is not the case at all. There are so many new (and not so new products) out there that help you to inject your personal style into your space even if you do not own it. There is no longer any reason why your rented space cannot be as fantastic as you see it in your head. And if you already own your home these are still great tips and even better tips for those who like to design and re-design often!
.) Add design elements with washi tape – Washi tape has gained a huge popularity over the last couple of years and it is the perfect way to add intricate designs to walls, doors, and accessories. You can even use it to create frames on the wall if you can’t punch holes in them. Below are some examples we found to show you your options. The possibilities go as far as your imagination will take them.
.) Carpet Tiles – If you want to add just a rug of even cover an entire room if you hate the flooring. Carpet tiles are the answer. They are offered in a range of styles, colors, and textures. They are easily installed, easily uninstalled, and are easy to maintain and keep clean.
.) Tile Tattoos – This is a great way to spruce up that boring tile you always see in a rented space. This is even a great way to quickly update your tile before guests arrive if you do not have the time or the funds to do a complete remodel. These “tile tattoos” are easily applied with water and remove without leaving any residue when it is time for you to move or just change up your design. This is a great way to add a design element to your bathroom or to spruce up the backsplash for your kitchen.
.) Contact Paper or Removable Wallpaper Backsplash – This is a great way to update your backsplash if it is just a plane wall. Pick out your favorite pattern and stick it to the backsplash. The options are so much better now than they used to be. You can get great geometric designs that mimic the look you would get with tile or a mosaic. You can also find contact papers that mimic metal tiles. Contact paper is great because it can be wiped down repeatedly if things splash it while cooking. You can also use a removable wallpaper (see our post for our favorites here), just check to make sure you can clean it if needed or leave it out of the area behind your stove.
.) Removable Wall Tile – This is kind of the same idea as the Removable Wallpaper we featured, except this adds texture and a 3 dimensional element to the space. Not all can be easily removed so be sure to check the installation instructions before purchasing. This is a great way to add a focal point to a wall and really add that WOW factor to a room. We found a great article on Apartment Therapy that lists several place you can find great wall tiles.
